The Karyes Hiking Trails form a modern and well-marked network of hiking routes that blend nature, history, and tradition in Mount Parnonas, Laconia. The trails highlight the old paths of Karyes, offering unique hiking and sports tourism experiences.

  • Village Trail (4.8 km) – Stroll through the picturesque village, stone houses, monuments, and lively square.
  • Shepherd’s Trail (7.4 km) – Gentle hike through hills, old fields, and the river Deiros.
  • Ancient Trail (9 km) – Historic route leading to Menelaos’ Planes and the sanctuary of Artemis.
  • Water Trail (4.4 km) – Refreshing path along water channels and lush vegetation.
  • Forest Trail (9.5 km) – Relaxed hike in the forest with chances to spot wildlife.
  • Chestnut Trail (9.7 km) – Challenging hike through chestnut groves, ravines, and waterfalls.

How long do the hikes last?

The trails range from 1.5 to 4.5 hours, depending on your choice. There are short walks like the Village Trail (4.8 km) and more demanding hikes like the Chestnut Trail (9.7 km).

What is the difficulty level?

The network offers routes for all levels: easy (Village Trail, Water Trail), moderate (Shepherd’s Trail, Oak Trail), and more challenging ones (Chestnut Trail, Forest Trail).

What should I bring?
