A winter escape in the heart of mountainous Arcadia, along one of the most beautiful and authentic sections of the Menalon Trail. This hike is a perfect opportunity to leave the city behind and experience hiking in Greece through landscapes that blend wild nature, traditional stone architecture, and absolute tranquility.
Our hiking group starts from Magouliana, the highest village in the Peloponnese at an altitude of 1,360 meters. The route begins along narrow cobbled paths, passing stone-built mansions and traditional village cafés that reflect the authentic character of rural Greece.
Leaving Magouliana, we continue on scenic hiking trails and gentle forest roads, surrounded by dense fir forests, flowing streams, and open viewpoints overlooking the slopes of Mount Mainalo. This section of the hike highlights why Arcadia is one of the top destinations for outdoor activities in Greece.
Winter adds a unique atmosphere to the trail: crisp mountain air, vibrant natural colors, and a deep sense of disconnection from everyday life. Highlights along the route include old stone structures, fairytale-like forest paths, and lush green valleys that showcase the traditional lifestyle of historic mountain communities. The constant change of scenery keeps the hike engaging and rewarding.
We finish in Valtesiniko, one of the most iconic mountain villages in Arcadia, built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Palaiokastro Hill at 1,150 meters altitude. With its stone architecture, old watermills, and excellent local tavernas, Valtesiniko offers the perfect setting to relax and enjoy local cuisine—an ideal ending to a full day of hiking, travel, and outdoor adventure in Greece.
